K.H. Lee Earns First PGA Tour Victory
McKinney, TX – Kyoung-hoon Lee (-25) earned his first career PGA Tour victory at the 2021 Byron Nelson. The 29-year-old South Korean has shown glimpses of brilliance this year but not always the consistency needed to get the job done. This week, he had his best stuff going during all four rounds. He edged out Sam Burns by three strokes.
Burns caught fire early in the week with a bogey-free 62 on Friday, vaulting himself to the top of the leaderboard. Burns, who won his first career PGA Tour event two weeks ago at the Valspar, has kept the momentum going. He was the best player in the field tee to green but just couldn’t make enough putts. Finishing one behind Burns were Patton Kizzire, Daniel Berger, Scott Stallings, and Charl Schwartzel.
With low scores on offer all week long, the leaderboard saw lots of movement. Jordan Spieth looked like he’d be in the mix after an opening-round 63 but couldn’t keep pace and ended up T9 at -18. Patton Kizzire moved in the other direction with a 63 on Sunday that lifted him into T3 at -21. Daniel Berger also made a big move on Sunday, shooting 64 to move up to T3.
The tournament has moved venues several times in recent years and TPC Craig Ranch proved to offer ample birdie opportunities during its first time as host. Many of the names near the top of the leaderboard are well outside the top 50 in the OWGR, including Stallings, Troy Merritt, and Joseph Bramlett (both T7, -19).
Next week, the PGA Tour heads to the Ocean course at Kiawah Island for the PGA Championship. The betting favorites for the PGA Championship at the time of writing are Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, and Bryson DeChambeau.
